Here it is the last full week of January. I entered the new year on this blog encouraging us to FIX OUR EYES ON JESUS. Our weekly themes, to date, have been
- HOLY
- FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS
- IN CHRIST ALONE, and now
- YOUR LOVE IS AMAZING!
Our memory verse for the month has encouraged us to:
- realize that we have a great cloud of witnesses who can testify that God truly is who He says He is
- get rid of the things that get in the way of our living for Jesus
- get rid of sin in our lives
- persevere on God's path that is marked out for us
- fix our eyes on Jesus (and attitude and endurance)
- think about the reward
- keep thinking about Jesus
- think about how He endured the ridicule and the people who did the ridiculing
- let all of the above encourage us
- What would joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control look like if they were not centered around love being foundational?
So, this week, as we continue to FIX OUR EYES ON JESUS or CONSIDER HIM, let's focus on His love. Our theme song sings, "...your love is steady, unchanging... a mountain firm beneath my feet...". That reminds me of another song, "Jesus, You're My Firm Foundation... I know I can stand secure. Jesus, You're My Firm Foundation... I put my hope in Your Holy Word, I put my hope in Your Holy Word..."
.
Our two preaching ministers, my husband Steve and Dan Cooper, are trading off speaking on Sundays about Building the Church. Since we are in a building program right now, with our new builiding to be completed by the end of the year, they are encouraging us to focus on building up ourselves - The Body Of Christ. Steve's sermon yesterday was on Our Firm Foundation. This is a subject that I would like to pursue further in another week, but for today I'll ask you the question that Steve asked us to ask ourselves: "What is my foundation?"
- self?
- significant other and self?
- people?
- things?
- pleasures?
- philosophy?
- religion? (observances, moral codes)
.
He challenged us to consider these verses,
1 Corinthians 3:10-12
"...each one should be careful
how he builds.
For no one can lay any foundation
other than the one already laid,
which is Jesus Christ."
