Let's really have a look at the first verse of our memory passage of the month. Hebrews 12:1 can be divided into 3 parts: a, b, & c. We'll look at it here in different versions. That's what we do here on Wednesdays... focus on THE WORD.
.
Hebrews 12:1a
- NIV: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,"
- NASB: "Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,"
- NKJV: "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,"
.
Hebrews 12:1b
- NIV: "let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,"
- NASB: "let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangle us,"
- NKJV: "let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,"
Hebrews 12:1c
- NIV: "and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."
- NASB: "and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,"
- NKJV: "and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,"
.
Here's the entire verse written in two other versions:
- THE MESSAGE: "Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins."
- NEW LIVING TRANSLATION: " Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us."
.
Or maybe, you're like me and need a few pictures for your WORD...
