It is GOD who BLESSES and TRANSFORMS...

This is a blog for women (not just moms) who:

(1) Desire to be transformed by JESUS' LOVE, HOLINESS, AND GRACE;

(2) Believe that GOD'S WORD is the true Spirit food for HIS HOLY SPIRIT who lives within us;

(3) Submit to GOD and walk this journey of life with HIM transforming us more and more into HIS likeness.

It's a blog about the POWER OF TRANSFORMED LIVES. Let's begin with yours and mine and pass it on... 1 + 1 + 1...

Since GOD's HOLY SPIRIT lives inside a christian, let's choose to be nurtured and transformed by feasting daily on HOLY SPIRIT food - GOD's WORD - The Holy Bible..

My regular posts stopped in 2013, with a major move and the chronic illness and eventual death of our oldest daughter. Yes, we grieve daily, yet I am determined to continue to let the LIGHT of my LORD and SAVIOR shine through me. I have tried to start posting again, over the last few years, but have not been consistent. So, I think the biggest blessing for you and me both will be to intersperse some new posts while revisiting some of the former posts. Let's begin with "Oh, the JOY!" as we head into living through Fall 2019; meeting back here 1-2 days a week.

If you need daily encouragement, you will find plenty by clicky on past posts. When reading earlier posts, you will see that I often posted daily, following this format: ...Sunday in the SON, Meditation Monday, GratiTuesday, Women in the WORD Wednesday, Transforming Thursday, Family Fellowship Friday, Ketchup & Mustard Saturday.

There's a whole lot here! Take your time to browse.

Please come back and visit each week. Welcome!

Because of JESUS, we can be family,

Patti

TRANSFORMED MOMS:MOMS TRANSFORMED

Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

PRAISE YOU IN THE STORM

SUNDAY IN THE SON
.
.
PRAISE YOU IN THE STORM

by Casting Crowns

I was sure by now
God, You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say “Amen”, and it’s still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I’ll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I’ve cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can’t find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
“I’m with you”
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth

SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME... BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD...

.
Families serve as a place for learning and loving, reflection and re-fueling, encouragement and exhortation. Even with the best of intentions, our families can loose their function - becoming stale and lifeless. Stepping back, on a regular basis, to consider each person in the family - their strengths and needs is imperative.
.
We often look at each other and say, "You sure look like..." or "You sure remind me of..." We see personality or physical traits that remind us of a cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or parent.
.
Each of our children have been called special names over the years. They include "sunshine", "apple of my eye", "special angel", and "honey bunny sweetheart". At some point, we began to look deeper and point out how they reminded us of their big brother, Jesus: "You reflect Jesus..." or "You look like your big brother Jesus when you..."
.

When I think of the Name / names of Jesus, it includes thinking of His own family names. Here are a few family names of Jesus...
  • Firstborn - Hebrews 1
  • Son of the Most High - Luke 1
  • Son of the Father - 2 John 3
  • Christ, the Son of God - John 11
  • Child - Isaiah 9:6
  • Seed of Abraham - Galatians 3
  • Offspring of David - Revelation 22
  • eXact representation of God - Hebrews 1
  • God, the One and Only - John 1
.
Yet, there are so many others that describe Him on a much different level: Author of Life... Blessed One... Chosen One... Deliverer... Eternal Life... Faithful One...
.
For our own children, I want them to see the spiritual DNA of Jesus that I see in them through these names. It's a way of extending GRACE! It's a way of BLESSING!
  • Creator
  • Counselor
  • Friend
  • Friend of tax collectors and sinners
  • Great Physician
  • Lamb
  • Lion
  • Mediator
  • Teacher
  • Wounded Healer

It's important to use our homes / families to:

  1. Reflect and Re-fuel
  2. Encourage and Exhort
  3. Learn and Love
  4. TEACH TRUTH
  5. GIVE GRACE

.

SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME... BLESSING THROUGH THE STORMS OF LIFE...

This week the fall colors are at their peak in South Jersey. I understand the transformation of the seasons, but I do wish that the brilliant colors, this time of the year, would stay a bit longer. Our neighborhood is vibrantly alive right now!

.

My 50+ years of life on this planet have found me living in some simply gorgeous places:

  • I used to look out our windows at the purple mountains majesty in both Colorado and Utah...

  • Steve and I took many foliage treks through southern Indiana and famous Brown County...

  • I rode the school bus, as a young girl, through the hills of Nancy (Lorraine), France...

  • I stood in our yard in Okinawa, in my pre-teen years, and watched the waves of the China Sea lap up on the beach...

  • on three different occasions of living there, I looked out at fields of wheat and head high cornfields from the maple tree lined streets of York, Nebraska...
And, yesterday, in spite of the storms in South Jersey, the beauty of the street we live on screamed through my rain soaked car windows. God, once again reminded me via His creation, that the beauty is there... I just have to change my focus... my perspective, in order to see it when the storms of life come.
TRANSFORMING THURSDAY

.

"From the fullness of His GRACE

we have all received

one BLESSING after another.

For the law was given through Moses;

GRACE and TRUTH

came through JESUS CHRIST."

.

The truth is that in the storms of life, counting our blessings IN CHRIST is the best policy. They may not be seen, but they are there - He's made sure of it!

SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME...GOD THE ONE AND ONLY...

As we approach the end of the month, let's spend another post focusing on our 2010 OCTOBER SCRIPTURE MEMORY. I've had a great visual, in the last few days, of this week's verse. Roger Collins, a friend of mine and Steve's for 39 years died on Monday night. While out running on Saturday, Roger had a masive heart attack. He was 57. He was the humble, kind, gentle, intelligent husband of Debbie, father of four, grandfather, professor at York College, former cross country coach at York College, and elder in the church. Those who have known him for a long time have used the words steady... consistent... persevering.... wise... loving.... and almost everyone has used the word humble. That is not my visual!
.
My visual is a lone cross country runner crossing the finish line of the race of a lifetime - sponsored by THE ONE AND ONLY! Standing just across the line is THE ONE AND ONLY Himself - JESUS CHRIST.
.
To those of us who have been left behind, we take comfort in verses like this week's verse:.

"No one has ever seen God,
but GOD THE ONE AND ONLY,
who is at the Father's side,
has made Him known."

.
Roger has seen more and knows more than he ever did on this earth. There is now a new normal for him, beyond anything we can think or imagine!
.
The entire 2010 OCTOBER SCRIPTURE MEMORY of five verses reads like this:
.
John 1:14-18

14 The WORD became flesh
and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory,
the glory of the ONE AND ONLY,
who came from the Father,
full of GRACE and TRUTH.
.
15 John testifies concerning Him.
He cries out, saying,
"This was He of whom I said,
'He who comes after me has surpassed me
because He was before me.'"
.
16 From the fullness of His GRACE
we have all received one BLESSING after another.
.
17 For the law was given through Moses;
GRACE and TRUTH came through JESUS CHRIST.

18 No one has ever seen God,
but GOD THE ONE AND ONLY,
who is at the Father's side,
has made Him known."

Each of those five verses begins differently:
.
  • 14 The WORD became flesh...
  • 15 John testifies concerning Him....
  • 16 From the fullness of His GRACE...
  • 17 For the law was given through Moses;
  • 18 No one has ever seen God, .

What if we added a visual hook to the beginning of each verse?

.

Would it help?

.

  • 14 The WORD became flesh...
    .
  • 15 John testifies concerning Him....
  • .

  • 16 From the fullness of His GRACE...

  • .
  • 17 For the law was given through Moses;

  • .

  • 18 No one has ever seen God,

SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME... NAME... NAME... NAME...

MEDITATION MONDAY

.

John 1:18, our verse for this week says, "No one has ever seen God, but GOD THE ONE AND ONLY, who is at the Father's side, has made Him known." Jesus is "GOD, THE ONE AND ONLY"!
.
If you haven't yet wrapped your mind around the fact that Jesus is God and that He was at creation creating, then maybe the scriptures and posts this month have given you a fresh look and opportunities to consider just that. When Jesus, GOD THE ONE AND ONLY, chose to humble himself into a baby and come to earth, He became God with skin on.
.
Yesterday, Dan Cooper's lesson topic was THEY TOOK THEIR FRIEND TO JESUS, taken from Mark 2:1-12. This is one of my favorite Bible passages. Four faithful friends are persistent in trying to meet the needs of their paralytic friend by taking him to GOD THE ONE AND ONLY.
.
Dan shared that each of us have burdens that we carry and we must lay them down. Those burdens may be causing us to be paralyzed in other ways besides being physically paralyzed. What should we do with those burdens? We must choose to lay those burdens down. Yesterday, we sang songs like: "Lay Your Burdens Down", "Bring Christ Your Broken Heart", and "Burdens are Lifted at Calvary".
.
In the story in Mark 2, Jesus chose to do the most important thing first - forgive the man's sins. Then, he healed his body!
.
Dan compared the healing of the man's body to the healing of his soul. I have taken what Dan said and tweaked it for our meditation today:
.
  • To heal the body, it took a MIRACLE MAKER.
  • To heal the soul, it took a MESSIAH
  • To heal the soul, it took a SAVIOR WHO WAS THE SACRIFICE
  • To heal the soul, it took a DEATH DEFYING DELIVERER.

.

To heal the body and the soul, it took JESUS... there's just something about that NAME... GRACE... How amazing!

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME... OVERFLOWING WITH BLESSINGS...

KETCHUP AND MUSTARD SATURDAY

.
This week, we've been talking about our BLESSINGS that come from the GRACE of Jesus Christ. If you been on this blog long, you know that I have an ABC list of names of Jesus. I plan to resurrect that list next week on a post.
.
This morning, I quickly wrote what could be one of many ABC lists of my SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS IN CHRIST. Read it, meditate on it, change it up... just consider your spiritual blessings as they convict you to worship HIM!

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME... I WANT TO RECEIVE IT IN IT'S FULL MEASURE...

.
The family of God is the best family on this planet! We have all the amazing BLESSINGS that God provides to everyone who lives here like: air, water, food, sunshine, rain, health, relationships, physical family... Yet, for those who are IN CHRIST, we are filled up to overflowing with spiritual BLESSINGS. John says that it's because of Christ's GRACE that this happens.
.
In about a week's time, there have been over 40,000 views of the Youtube video of CHIP'S STORY, that I have posted on this blog. If you have time to watch it again or for the first time, notice what Chip says about God's family. It is so encouraging!
.
As I've pondered my BLESSINGS IN CHRIST, again today, I think of several of Christ's teachings:
  1. Matthew, Mark, and Luke all share Jesus' parable of the sower. Jesus says that there are different kinds of soil. You and I are the soil. We must make a choice as to whether or not we want to receive what Jesus plants in us. How? Will we be hard and difficult to work with? Will His water of life soak into us or just run off? OR, will we be easy to work with... to form and to shape? Will we allow His water of life to fill us up to overflowing?
  2. It really boils down to how Jesus began the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5: BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT, FOR THEIRS IS THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN...
  3. Then, there's our scripture memory for this month, from John 1, that reminds us that Jesus is this amazing balance of GRACE and TRUTH... and from that comes blessing after blessing...

.

I am certainly not shy to say that I'd like to receive those BLESSINGS in full measure!

.

Have you counted your BLESSINGS IN CHRIST today?
.
Let Chip encourage us today, via the reading of John 1, which he recorded BEFORE his heat stroke:

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME...COUNTING MY BLESSINGS...

TRANSFORMING THURSDAY
.
Have you ever worked around or lived with a person who always sees "the glass half empty" instead of "the glass half full". Negativism and ungratefulness just wear on a person. The interesting thing is that the last few weeks I've been surrounded by just that. Many of my students have been poster children of stressed out complainers and negative reactionaries. For a while, I tried to be a light in a dark world. What happened? Recently, especially this last week, I have come home and dumped the garbage at home. I am exhausted, but that is no excuse! There are many mothers who work only at home or work at home and outside the home that have it far more intense than I do. It's time for the negative self-talk and talk to others to cease! It's time for the caterpillar mentality to stop!
.
Yesterday, being in the WORD via our scripture memory gave me a glimpse in the mirror. Thank You, Jesus:

.
"From the fullness of His GRACE

we have all received one BLESSING after another.

For the law was given through Moses;

GRACE and TRUTH came through JESUS CHRIST."

.

Whether a christian or not, I've noticed that people who count their blessings and live their lives with "gratitude attitudes" are making transforming choices. The wonderful thing about being a christian is that I can look in the mirror of THE WORD and see my reflection pretty clearly. The TRUTH may hurt, but His GRACE says, "You can stop right now... ask for forgiveness... quit the negative thinking /talking... begin making positive and encouraging choices ...

.

.
AND START COUNTING YOUR BLESSINGS!!!!
.
  • SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS

  • PHYSICAL BLESSINGS

  • INTELLECTUAL BLESSINGS

  • RELATIONAL BLESSINGS

  • EMOTIONAL BLESSINGS
.
Maybe it's time for me to get out the old movie POLLYANNA and get a glimpse of what that looks like.
.

Maybe it's time to get a prism and see some rainbows (a.k.a. Pollyanna and Noah). I grew up listening to a stack of record albums of my parents. My favorite was Tennessee Ernie Ford every Sunday morning. On that album, he sang some pretty powerful words about a righteous man who found GRACE: "Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD." I think about those words, when I see a rainbow and count my blessings and not my troubles.
.

THE TRUTH IS THAT:
.

"From the fulness of His GRACE,
.
we have all received one BLESSING after another"

.

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME... ONE BLESSING AFTER ANOTHER...

I invite you to join me today in practicing the first 3 parts of this months scripture memory. I'll follow it afterwards with a few brief comments.
,
John 1:14-18
.
14
The WORD became flesh and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the ONE AND ONLY,
who came from the Father, full of GRACE and TRUTH.
15
John testifies concerning Him.
He cries out, saying, "This was He of whom I said,
'He who comes after me has surpassed me
because He was before me.'"
.
16 From the fullness of His GRACE
we have all received one BLESSING after another.
17 For the law was given through Moses;
GRACE and TRUTH came through JESUS CHRIST.
.
.
.
Now, practice saying this week's scripture as you slowly scroll down:

From the fullness
of His GRACE
we have all
received
one
BLESSING
after
another.
For the law
was given
through Moses;
GRACE
and
TRUTH
came
through
JESUS
CHRIST.
.
Practice saying this week's scripture with every other word diminished:
.
John 1:14-18
.
The WORD became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the ONE AND ONLY, who came from the Father, full of GRACE and TRUTH. John testifies concerning Him. He cries out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.'" From the fullness of His GRACE we have all received one BLESSING after another. For the law was given through Moses; GRACE and TRUTH came through JESUS CHRIST.

.
.
.
Practice saying this week's scripture with every other word missing:
.
John 1:14-18
.
________WORD ________flesh _____ made _____ dwelling ________us. ___ have _________ His _______, the _______ of ______ONE ______ ONLY, _____ came ______ the ______, full ___ GRACE _____TRUTH. ______ testifies _____________ Him. ______ cries ________, saying, "This ______ He _____ whom _____said, '_____ who ________after _____has ____________ me ___________He _______before ______.'" From ______fullness ____ His ________ we ______ all ___________ one ____________after _________. For ______law ______given ________Moses; ________and ________ came ___________JESUS ___________.
.
.
.

SCRIPTURE PHRASE:

"From the fulness of His GRACE, we have all received one BLESSING after another"

COMMENT:

.

It is God's rich GRACE that overflows from Jesus Christ into our lives. Join me tomorrow as we look at this phrase a little deeper!

.

SCRIPTURE PHRASE:

"For the law was given through Moses; GRACE and TRUTH came through Jesus Christ."

.

COMMENT:

I spent some time last night back in the Old Testament. I reminded myself that since Jesus was there at creation, Grace and Truth must have been in Genesis.

.

Evidence? Blessing!

.

The word "grace" is not used in the book of Genesis, but the words bless, blessing, blessed, and blesses do appear 404 times in Genesis. (New American Standard Version - NASB). The WORD shows, that since the beginning of time, God-THE ONE AND ONLY, has poured out one blessing after another on creation.

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME... I AM SOOOOO GRATEFUL....

God, life had lost it's flavor and You sent Your "salt of the earth" family...
.
God, things seemed so hopeless and they couldn't find their way. So, You sent Your "light of the world" family...
.
The TRUTH is that You extended Your MERCY AND GRACE through Your people... Your family... and I am so very grateful.
.
Thank You, God, that at just the right time You sent...

YOUR GRACE STILL AMAZES ME... AS YOU DISCIPLE ME...

MEDITATION MONDAY

"I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW!"
.
.
At some point, Steve's sermon from yesterday will be posted and you can click over on the right sidebar and listen. It will be worth it! The video clips he showed will probably not be available though. There is no way that I can even touch on the enormity of the topic. Steve spoke from the book of Mark, specifically chapters 8-10 which he referred to as - "strong teaching on discipleshp."
.
On the way out of the auditorium yesterday, I had more people than usual say to me how "challenged" or "impacted" they were by his words. Others called or texted during the day. Then, there were Facebook comments like this one:
.
Thank you Steve for a wonderful lesson on discipling! Thank you for challenging us and reminding me again how my pride gets in the way! Please Lord keep breaking me down! GIGATT...
.
You know, the word GRACE is not found in the book of Mark, but the teaching hit me smack dab in the heart! Who are you allowing to help disciple you? Who is it in your life who can work like an S.O.S. pad to help scrub down the rough places? Who is it in your life who you will listen to when they say:
.
.
Steve took us from Mark 8:22 to Mark 10:52. He called these the INCLUSIO passages between the two stories of the blind men. Jesus was with His disciples:

  1. HE SPENT TIME WITH THEM.
  2. HE ASKED THEM QUESTIONS.
  3. HE WARNED!
  4. HE TAUGHT THEM... STATING THINGS PLAINLY...
  5. HE REBUKED!

One of the disciples:

  1. PULLED JESUS ASIDE!
  2. REBUKED JESUS!

Wow! All that and we weren't even out of Mark 8. What I noticed the most, as Jesus discipled, was that He spoke of spiritual things and His disciples got stuck on the physical. He would say something profound and eventually it would get back to the physical and the disciples' pride. They could not see clearly that Jesus was talking about a spiritual Kingdom. They had trouble seeing JESUS clearly for who He was!

Steve reminded us that JESUS was calling all disciples to be SUFFERING, SERVANT SLAVES. Now that is a deeply spiritual concept that I refer to as the:

I thought, "Yep! Patti, Jesus is calling you to be a JOYFUL suffering, servant slave!

As I sat and pondered Jesus' patient love for His disciples, I was convicted that that is how He wants us to disciple each other - with GRACE and TRUTH. I also thought of what we had read in our Bible class, just an hour earlier with elementary kids, from the book of Genesis. God was patiently working with Cain. He extended Him GRACE:
.
.
Genesis 4:6-8
"Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry?
Why is your face downcast?
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?
But if you do not do what is right,
sin is crouching at your door;
it desires to have you, but you must master it."
Now Cain said to his brother Abel,
"Let's go out to the field."
And while they were in the field,
Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him."
.
Cain wouldn't allow himself to be discipled by God. Judas wouldn't allow himself to be discipled by Jesus. GOD STILL EXTENDED HIS GRACE!!! AMAZING!
.

Your tender mercy’s like a river with no end
It overwhelms me, covers my sin
Each time I come into Your presence
I stand in wonder once again
.
CHORUS:
Your GRACE still amazes me
Your love is still a mystery
Each day I fall on my knees
Your GRACE still amazes me
‘Cause Your GRACE still amazes me
.
Oh, patient Saviour, You make me whole
You are the Author and the Healer of my soul
What can I give You, Lord, what can I say
I know there’s no way to repay You
Only to offer You my praise
.
CHORUS:
Your GRACE still amazes me
Your love is still a mystery
Each day I fall on my knees
Your GRACE still amazes me
‘Cause Your GRACE still amazes me
.
It’s deeper, it’s wider
It’s stronger, it’s higher
It’s deeper it’s wider
It’s stronger, it’s higher
than anything my eyes can see
.

CHORUS:
Your GRACE still amazes me
Your love is still a mystery
Each day I fall on my knees
Your GRACE still amazes me
‘Cause Your GRACE still amazes me.

This week, I'm thinking of a few friends and family who would have a few things to say about God's Amazing Grace: Steve/Patti, Caleb/Krista, Jordan/Jacqueline, Chip/Lisa, Rich/Cindy... How about you?

AMAZING GRACE... SHINING THROUGH HIS PEOPLE... HIS FAMILY...

.
Our third grandchild was born a week from yesterday. Her daddy and mommy arrived early at the hospital.

.
Kaleah Faith arrived at 1:21 p.m. as her mommy briefly pushed and her daddy delivered.

.
They left the hospital the next day, posing for a pic with the attending physician.
.
.
The Kansas Keesees were waiting at J & J's home to share the joy.
.
Pappy and Grams with sister Chloe:

Lots of sister time for Chloe and Kaleah:
.
.
Three Keesee sisters... two Sikes' sisters... and two of the three brothers-in-love enjoy each others fellowship...
.
.

Mention the name Keesee and people smile and tell you of a "salt of the earth" extended family.
.
The Keesee family comes to mind? Yes! Reflections of their Savior... "light of the world people"...
.
Keesee's? A plugged in family! People full of GRACE and TRUTH!
.
Our daughter-in love is a Keesee Sikes! Our two granddaughters are so blessed to have Pappy and Grams Keesee and the extended Keesee family as their family, friends, and life models.
