What a day yesterday was! It included several dramatic illustrations of our topic for today. Here is one:
.
I met Cristi and Lauren for lunch. It looks like Lauren will be "released" to go home to Virginia today. They'll be rejoining their family. It will be a huge transition for all of them. After a heart transplant, the recepient must rebuild her immune system. So, it is not uncommon to wear a mask over the mouth/nose when out in public. That is what Lauren did yesterday.
.
We had a great lunch and visit. As we walked out of the restaurant, four men were coming in. One made a comment about Lauren and her mask that seemed callous, rude, and thoughtless. It struck me right to the core! By the look on Cristi's face, I knew it had hit her hard, too. With Cristi's permission, I returned to the restaurant to have a talk with the men (my Mother Superior role had kicked in).
.
I basically said to them that I didn't even want to know who said it, but they needed to know that what they did was rude and mean spirited. After three of the men pointed to the fourth man, he stepped forward. He said that he had no intention of it being rude or mean spirited. He said that he had kids of his own. I explained Lauren's situation to him and he asked me to "apologize to the lady... I meant no harm." Really?
.
I wish that I would have had an Ephesians 4:29 forehead stamp for him:
