Families serve as a place for learning and loving, reflection and re-fueling, encouragement and exhortation. Even with the best of intentions, our families can loose their function - becoming stale and lifeless. Stepping back, on a regular basis, to consider each person in the family - their strengths and needs is imperative.
.
We often look at each other and say, "You sure look like..." or "You sure remind me of..." We see personality or physical traits that remind us of a cousin, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or parent.
.
Each of our children have been called special names over the years. They include "sunshine", "apple of my eye", "special angel", and "honey bunny sweetheart". At some point, we began to look deeper and point out how they reminded us of their big brother, Jesus: "You reflect Jesus..." or "You look like your big brother Jesus when you..."
.
When I think of the Name / names of Jesus, it includes thinking of His own family names. Here are a few family names of Jesus...
- Firstborn - Hebrews 1
- Son of the Most High - Luke 1
- Son of the Father - 2 John 3
- Christ, the Son of God - John 11
- Child - Isaiah 9:6
- Seed of Abraham - Galatians 3
- Offspring of David - Revelation 22
- eXact representation of God - Hebrews 1
- God, the One and Only - John 1
Yet, there are so many others that describe Him on a much different level: Author of Life... Blessed One... Chosen One... Deliverer... Eternal Life... Faithful One...
.
For our own children, I want them to see the spiritual DNA of Jesus that I see in them through these names. It's a way of extending GRACE! It's a way of BLESSING!
- Creator
- Counselor
- Friend
- Friend of tax collectors and sinners
- Great Physician
- Lamb
- Lion
- Mediator
- Teacher
- Wounded Healer
It's important to use our homes / families to:
- Reflect and Re-fuel
- Encourage and Exhort
- Learn and Love
- TEACH TRUTH
- GIVE GRACE
.
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD!
