It is GOD who BLESSES and TRANSFORMS...

This is a blog for women (not just moms) who:

(1) Desire to be transformed by JESUS' LOVE, HOLINESS, AND GRACE;

(2) Believe that GOD'S WORD is the true Spirit food for HIS HOLY SPIRIT who lives within us;

(3) Submit to GOD and walk this journey of life with HIM transforming us more and more into HIS likeness.

It's a blog about the POWER OF TRANSFORMED LIVES. Let's begin with yours and mine and pass it on... 1 + 1 + 1...

Since GOD's HOLY SPIRIT lives inside a christian, let's choose to be nurtured and transformed by feasting daily on HOLY SPIRIT food - GOD's WORD - The Holy Bible..

My regular posts stopped in 2013, with a major move and the chronic illness and eventual death of our oldest daughter. Yes, we grieve daily, yet I am determined to continue to let the LIGHT of my LORD and SAVIOR shine through me. I have tried to start posting again, over the last few years, but have not been consistent. So, I think the biggest blessing for you and me both will be to intersperse some new posts while revisiting some of the former posts. Let's begin with "Oh, the JOY!" as we head into living through Fall 2019; meeting back here 1-2 days a week.

If you need daily encouragement, you will find plenty by clicky on past posts. When reading earlier posts, you will see that I often posted daily, following this format: ...Sunday in the SON, Meditation Monday, GratiTuesday, Women in the WORD Wednesday, Transforming Thursday, Family Fellowship Friday, Ketchup & Mustard Saturday.

There's a whole lot here! Take your time to browse.

Please come back and visit each week. Welcome!

Because of JESUS, we can be family,

Patti

TRANSFORMED MOMS:MOMS TRANSFORMED

Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET: BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL

KETCHUP AND MUSTARD SATURDAY

Catch Up and Must Do Saturday
.

Please join me over a burger today as I share with you some things about "BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL...", about my children, and a story I found on the internet a while back. Oh, here comes the waiter now...ketchup or mustard?
.

.
1.
Our oldest son, Jordan, who lives in Chicago, was to be a groomsman in his good friend Fletcher's wedding this weekend in Denver. Jordan cancelled his plane ticket yesterday because he chose mercy. Eight months pregnant, Jacqueline needed a chauffeur. Her precious grandfather, Lowell Keesee, passed away in Kansas this week. Jordan, of course, did not just need to be her chauffeur, he felt her pain and wanted to be with his wife during this very important time. He, also, has grown to love Grandpa and Grandma Keesee and he sees what an impact they have had on his wife.
.

Jordan and Jacqueline traveled yesterday from Illinois, through Iowa, through Nebraska, and into Kansas. It was to be an 11 hour trip even without the needed stops of a pregnant lady. They made a pit stop along highway 80 at a York, NE Starbuck's. Our daughter, Crystal, (who lives in Michigan) happens to be in York this week on her spring break visiting her boyfriend, Mitch. They were blessed to meet up for a few minutes, take a few pictures, and get back on the road. The pics got sent over email to Steve and I in South Jersey. We got a text from Jordan at 12:02 a.m. this morning saying that they had arrived safely at their Kansas destination.

2. Want to see people loving each other God's way? Then, observe someone who

  • is poor in spirit

  • mourns over the lost condition of our world

  • really listens to and is led by the Holy Spirit of God

  • hungers and thirsts for the righteousness that only comes from the Holy Spirit of God

  • extends true mercy to those he/she comes in contact with

.

My children, my two daughters-in-love, and my husband all model mercy for me and help me see what it looks like. My church family is incredible in how they extend mercy and grace. I found the following story on the internet and it reminds me of something our son, Caleb, OR my husband, Steve, OR a few other men from our church family would do. I hope this story will pierce you deeply. I do not know the name of the author.

.
3.
.
I sat, with two friends, in the picture window of a quaint restaurant just off the corner of the town-square. The food and the company were both especially good that day. As we talked, my attention was drawn outside, across the street. There, walking into town, was a man who appeared to be carrying all his worldly goods on his back. He was carrying, a well-worn sign that read, 'I will work for food.'
.
My heart sank. I brought him to the attention of my friends and noticed that others around us had stopped eating to focus on him. Heads moved in a mixture of sadness and disbelief. We continued with our meal, but his image lingered in my mind. We finished our meal and went our separate ways. I had errands to do and quickly set out to accomplish them.
.
I glanced toward the town square, looking somewhat half heartedly for the strange visitor. I was fearful, knowing that seeing him again would call some response. I drove through town and saw nothing of him. I made some purchases at a store and got back in my car. Deep within me, the Spirit of God kept speaking to me: 'Don't go back to the office until you've at least driven once more around the square.' Then with some hesitancy, I headed back into town.
.
As I turned the square's third corner, I saw him. He was standing on the steps of the store front church, going through his sack. I stopped and looked; feeling both compelled to speak to him, yet wanting to drive on. The empty parking space on the corner seemed to be a sign from God: an invitation to park. I pulled in, got out and approached the town's newest visitor.
.
'Looking for the pastor?' I asked.
.
'Not really,' he replied, 'just resting.'
.
'Have you eaten today?'
.
'Oh, I ate something early this morning.'
.
'Would you like to have lunch with me?'
.
'Do you have some work I could do for you?'
.
'No work,' I replied. 'I commute here to work from the city, but Iwould like to take you to lunch.'
.
'Sure,' he replied with a smile. As he began to gather his things, I asked some surface questions. Where you headed?'

.
' St. Louis '

.
'Where you from?'
.
'Oh, all over; mostly Florida '
.
'How long you been walking?'
.
'Fourteen years,' came the reply.

.I knew I had met someone unusual. We sat across from each other in the same restaurant I had left earlier His face was weathered slightly beyond his 38 years. His eyes were dark yet clear, and he spoke with an eloquence and articulation that was startling. He removed his jacket to reveal a bright red T-shirt that said, 'Jesus is The Never Ending Story.'
.
Then Daniel's story began to unfold. He had seen rough times early in life. He'd made some wrong choices and reaped the consequences. Fourteen years earlier, while backpacking across the country, he had stopped on the beach in Daytona. He tried to hire on with some men who were putting up a large tent and some equipment. A concert, he thought. He was hired, but the tent would not house a concert but revival services, and in those services he saw life more clearly. He gave his life over to God.
.
'Nothing's been the same since,' he said, 'I felt the Lord telling me to keep walking, and so I did, some 14 years now.'
.
'Ever think of stopping?' I asked.
.
'Oh, once in a while, when it seems to get the best of me But God has given me this calling. I give out Bibles. That's what's in my sack. I work to buy food and Bibles, and I give them out when His Spirit leads.'

.

I sat amazed. My homeless friend was not homeless. He was on a mission and lived this way by choice.
.
The question burned inside for a moment and then I asked: 'What's it like?'
.
'What? '
.
'To walk into a town carrying all your things on your back and to show your sign?'.
.
'Oh, it was humiliating at first. People would stare and make comments. Once someone tossed a piece of half-eaten bread and made a gesture that certainly didn't make me feel welcome. But then it became humbling to realize that God was using me to touch lives and change people's concepts of other folks like me.'
.
My concept was changing, too. We finished our dessert and gathered his things. Just outside the door, he paused.
.
He turned to me and said, 'Come Ye blessed of my Father and inherit the kingdom I've prepared for you. For when I was hungry you gave me food , when I was thirsty you gave me drink, a stranger and you took me in.'
.
I felt as if we were on holy ground. 'Could you use another Bible?' I asked.
.
He said he preferred a certain translation. It traveled well and was not too heavy. It was also his personal favorite. 'I've read through it 14 times,' he said.
.
'I'm not sure we've got one of those, but let's stop by our church and see'. I was able to find my new friend a Bible that would do well, and he seemed very grateful.
.
'Where are you headed from here?' I asked. 'Well, I found this little map on the back of this amusement park coupon.'
.
'Are you hoping to hire on there for awhile?'
.
'No, I just figure I should go there. I figure someone under that star right there needs a Bible, so that's where I'm going next.' He smiled, and the warmth of his spirit radiated the sincerity of his mission.
.
I drove him back to the town-square where we'd met two hours earlier, and as we drove, it started raining. We parked and unloaded his things. 'Would you sign my autograph book?' he asked. 'I like to keep messages from folks I meet.'
.
I wrote in his little book that his commitment to his calling had touched my life. I encouraged him to stay strong. And I left him with a verse of scripture from Jeremiah, 'I know the plans I have for you, declared the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you; Plans to give you a future and a hope.'
.
'Thanks, man,' he said. 'I know we just met and we're really just strangers, but I love you.'
.
'I know,' I said, 'I love you, too.'
.
'The Lord is good!'
.
'Yes, He is. How long has it been since someone hugged you?' I asked.
.
'A long time,' he replied.
.
And so on the busy street corner in the drizzling rain, my new friend and I embraced, and I felt deep inside that I had been changed.
.
He put his things on his back, smiled his winning smile and said, 'See you in the New Jerusalem.'
.
'I'll be there!' was my reply.
.
He began his journey again. He headed away with his sign dangling from his bedroll and pack of Bibles. He stopped, turned and said, 'When you see something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?'
.
'You bet,' I shouted back, 'God bless.'
.
'God bless.' And that was the last I saw of him.
.
Late that evening as I left my office, the wind blew strong. The cold front had settled hard upon the town. I bundled up and hurried to my car. As I sat back and reached for the emergency brake, I saw them... a pair of well-worn brown work gloves neatly laid over the length of the handle. I picked them up and thought of my friend and wondered if his hands would stay warm that night without them.
.
Then I remembered his words: 'If you see something that makes you think of me, will you pray for me?'
.
Today his gloves lie on my desk in my office. They help me to see the world and its people in a new way, and they help me remember those two hours with my unique friend and to pray for his ministry.
.
'See you in the New Jerusalem,' he said. Yes, Daniel, I know I will... If this story touched you, forward it to a friend! My personal note: The next time you see that person on the street corner holding a "Will work for food" sign, remember God did not put them there for us to judge them or speculate what they do with what we give them, but for us to be like Jesus and give freely with a loving heart.
.
PATTI'S NOTE: I am forever touched! Please come back for this next week on our continued discussion of BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL...

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET...AMAZING GRACE!

Notice with me how the apostle Paul begins his first letter to Timothy:
.
"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus
according to the commandment of God our Savior,
and of Christ Jesus, who is our hope;
to Timothy, my true child in the faith:
Grace, mercy and peace
from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord."
.
If you've visited this blog recently, you know that we are spending alot of time discussing Christ's "Beattitudes" in His Sermon on the Mount. We are now on Beattitude #5, "Blessed are the merciful..."
.
How do you and I create an atmosphere of hope, grace, mercy, and peace in our homes? How do we teach our children to be mercy givers? I am convinced that it must be part of the family's life style. There must be a personal connection, not just a jar to collect pennies to donate to an orphanage once a year. The more we talk about how thankful we are for the grace, mercy, peace, and hope that God has extended to us, the more natural it comes to extend those same things to others.
.
When our children were young, they went with Steve or I or both of us regularly to visit widows. They became friends with orphans. They gave their own things to those who had been burned out or suffered loss in some way. We made meals for families and delivered them together. We had people in our home who were struggling, discouraged, or needing a boost. As they matured, they went on mission trips to:
  • inner city USA in Nashville, Denver, and NYC
  • Hurricane Katrina Relief
  • homeless shelters
  • Russia
  • Dominican Republic
  • Ecuador

Often, they would sing to whoever they ministered to. I remember several people including Kathy, who was blind. She wanted to hear the kids sing several songs including "Amazing Grace". In spite of her circumstances, she wanted to be reminded of the grace and mercy that the LORD had extended to her.

.

Someone asked Steve and I recently if any of our children, as young adults, have worked with people with special needs. My immediate response was to say that Crystal is now majoring in special education. Then, I heard Steve say, "Yes, all of them!" Jordan worked at a home for people with disabilities while going through York College. Although he graduated in 2003, he still keeps in contact with some of his former "clients". Jessica was the head tech at a home for people challenged with schizophrenia while going through Indiana University and she worked at a home for those with disabilities while attending Abilene Christian University. Caleb now works full time with clients with disabilities. Crystal has developed a passion for working with children with autism. All of our children continue to be major mercy givers!

.

The last few weeks there has been much about health challenges and death on this blog: Connor Deal, John Baldwin, and Lowell Keesee. We were in prayer for Connor and John before they went on to eternity. Lee Smith, in our congregation, also passed away this past week. His viewing was Monday, the funeral and meal for the family were on Tuesday, and the burial was on Wednesday. At the meal on Tuesday, I found out that one of Lee's granddaughters is engaged to one of my students. We prayed for Maria through her tumor removal surgery. We continue to pray for Lauren as she awaits a new heart. How do we extend mercy and grace to these families? The other night, as soon as Brian Mansdoerfer heard that John had passed on, he headed over to John's house to extend mercy by shoveling the driveway and walks before the grieving family returned from the hospital.

.

Last night, as I was visiting a few blogs, I was once again overwhelmed by how the Holy Spirit works. I went to multiple posts that continue this discussion. They gave me more food for thought. I share them with you here:

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET...GRACE FOR TODAY AND BRIGHT HOPE FOR TOMORROW

TRANSFORMING THURSDAY

and

WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY

.
Yesterday was a very busy day for me as I started teaching one of my new classes at the University...was scheduled to be at a meeting at a local high school and to have a tutoring session for a young girl before dinner and Wednesday night Bible study. First though , I needed to get some laundry done, get lunch for Jessica in the crockpot, and complete my Wednesday post that I had not finished the night before. I smiled as I pushed the PUBLISH POST button. I loved the scriptures that I had found that took us deeper into understanding "BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL..." Yet, instead of publishing, FATAL ERROR came up on my screen and my post was no more. Steve said later, "Had you saved it to a Word Document? You know that this has happened before." I know! I know! You'd think that I would learn. I was feeling discouraged and Steve extended mercy and grace as we continued to talk.
.
I am disappointed to not be able to share with you yesterday's post but I'll try to reconstruct it into some TRANSFORMING thoughts for today - THURSDAY.
.
When I think of extending mercy to someone, I think of someone who might be:
  • down and out
  • discouraged
  • in need of forgiveness
  • suffering from extenuating circumstances
  • a person with an exceptionality

.

Most of the time, people in these circumstances are in need of grace for today and bright hope for tomorrow. They need mercy and understanding extended to them. Mercy for the giver and the receiver can be TRANSFORMING.

.

This semester I have begun teaching a class at the University called Human Exceptionality. It is a class that I taught for many years while teaching at York College in Nebraska. The word exceptionality means "not the norm". The class focus is humans...people....people who because of nothing that they have chosen are in circumstances beyond their control and "qualify" to be served under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) or the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)in some way, shape or form. Some of these exceptionalities include:

  • Learning Disabilities
  • Autism
  • Blindness
  • Deafness
  • Giftedness
  • Physical or Mental Handicaps
  • Other health impairments, which might include: Diabetes, ADHD, Heart problems, etc.

I have served over the years as a teacher, coordinator, caseworker, and director/administrator of services for people with exceptionalities. Each of my four children has been in either one or two or three of the catagories above at one time. It's overwhelming...for the person and the person's family.

.

In schools, communities, and, sadly, in churches I have often heard people with exceptionalities termed as "lazy" or "hopeless". I've even heard "I wonder what the mother or father did to cause that to happen?" I've heard judgment when mercy was needed.

.

Just like you and me, everyone needs HOPE for the future. It's TRANSFORMING! My sisters in Christ, Kristi and Debbie, have extended mercy, grace, and hope to our family. Many of you have done the same. Our daughter Jessica suffers from excruciating migraines. She had to drop out of high school....went through college in bits and pieces... And, now at the age of 25, she is home again living with us because it's getting worse. We are no longer able to carry her on our health insurance. So, Kristi and Debbie are walking me through (holding my hand) as I help Jessica apply for social services, social security disability and related benefits. It's overwhelming!

.

As we sat in the Social Services office last week on multiple days, I was not alone. One day, I counted 75 of us crammed into a small room waiting, waiting, and waiting some more. I looked into the eyes of those who had lost their jobs. I overheard people telling their stories of lost hope, discouragement, and even of living on the streets. I wept on the inside.

.

Jessica's name was called and we were escorted to a little cubicle office. As we sat down, I noticed the framed print hanging on the wall above the computer. I was thankful for the person who had thought to put it there.

.

Jessica's caseworker shook our hands and introduced himself as "Mr. Hope". I laughed, appreciating the levity. I really did not think that was his name but it was. In, fact, it wasn't his office and he had not noticed that framed print before. Thank you, God! Jessica and I needed that reminder of HOPE FOR TOMORROW as we started the paperwork.

.

Later that day, at the hair salon, they were giving away New Testaments. Amazing! Look at the cover. I asked if I could have one for me and one for my daughter.

.

Please join me right now as we look at a few words of mercy, grace, and hope from the New Testament:

.****************************

2 Corinthians 3:17-4:1

Now the Lord is the Spirit;

and where the Spirit of the Lord is,

there is liberty.

18 But we all, with unveiled face

beholding as in a mirror

the glory of the Lord,

are being transformed into the same image

from glory to glory,

just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

Therefore, since we have this ministry...

...as we received mercy,

we do not lose heart..."

**********************

Titus 3:5-7

"He saved us, not on the basis of deeds

which we have done in righteousness,

but according to His mercy,

by the washing of regeneration and

renewing by the Holy Spirit,

6 whom He poured out upon us richly

through Jesus Christ our Savior,

7 that being justified by His grace

we might be made heirs

according to the hope of eternal life."

***********************

James 3:17

"But the wisdom from above is

first pure,

then peaceable,

gentle,

reasonable,

full of mercy and good fruits,

unwavering,

without hypocrisy."

**************************

1 Peter 1:3
"Blessed be the God and Father

of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who according to His great mercy

has caused us to be born again

to a living hope

through the resurrection of Jesus Christ

from the dead..."

****************************

.
As, we moved to New Jersey in 2007, our oldest son Jordan and his wife, Jacqueline, gave us a crystal stand inscribed with the words below. It has continued to be so encouraging. Yet, this morning as I think of Jacqueline (in her eighth month of pregnancy), I pray for God's love, grace, and mercy to envelope her and give her hope as she and her family grieve the passing of her wonderful christian grandfather, Lowell Keesee.

.

Romans 15:13

"Now may the God of HOPE
fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
that you may abound in HOPE
by the power of the Holy Spirit."
.

God has given some the gift of mercy. Our daughter-in-law, Jacqueline has that gift. Click here to see Jacqueline and her grandpa. http://jordandjacqueline.blogspot.com/

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET...GRACE FOR TODAY AND BRIGHT HOPE FOR TOMORROW...

WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY

This post experienced a fatal error and was erased...so, look for it to be revised and combined with TRANSFORMING THURSDAYS post. I figure this must be because of the title of the post and God thought that I needed a visual aid!

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET...I'M LIKE A TREE...

.
In Genesis 1, God made trees! I am a tree watcher not because I have "gone green" but because of the spiritual teachings I see when I observe a tree. I taught a class one Sunday morning last fall to our ladies of the Pitman church and shared a few tree connections:

.

...When I look at any row of trees, I see that each one is different...just because they are different they are still trees...we honor and appreciate the differences...

.

.

...When I look more closely at a tree and I see the kind of tree that it is....

even it's age...

.

.

...When I look even more closely at a tree, I see hardships or difficult circumstances that the tree might have encountered over the years through wind, hail, sleet, snow, fire, etc...

.

.

...When life has me down, throws me twists and curves... or I feel beaten or battered, I am encouraged by trees...

.

.

Several years ago, during a really rough period in our lives, when circumstances at home, on the job, and even with the church were very difficult...when there was much judgment, little mercy, and hope that seemed elusive...I was encouraged by a tree...I sat in the parking lot of the grocery store before going in each time I visited and pondered a tree that looked like it had weathered many storms. There was nothing "pretty" about this tree, yet it was massive and majestic...it had survived...it gave me courage to go on...

.

After sharing that story in class, others began to tell me that they had become tree watchers. Below you will find some great scriptures about trees, my favorite video about a tree, and something that Stephanie surprised me with recently.

.

Following that class, Stephanie and her kids became tree watchers, taking their camera out and capturing unique trees. She made a collage of her pictures and presented them to me. What a friend! What a treasure! I am thankful today for God's teachings through trees, for lessons of mercy and hope that can be gleaned from them, AND for my friend Stephanie who gave me this wonderful gift of encouragement. Thank you, God! Thank you, Stephanie!

.

.

James 5:11 "Behold, we count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord's dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful."

.

.

Job 14:7-9
7 "For there is hope for a tree,

When it is cut down,

that it will sprout again,

And its shoots will not fail.

"Though its roots grow old in the ground,

And its stump dies in the dry soil,

At the scent of water it will flourish

And put forth sprigs like a plant..."

.

.

Psalm 1:1-3
"How blessed is the (wo)man who
does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his (her) delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law (s)he meditates day and night.
3 And (s)he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever (s)he does, (s)he prospers."

.

I believe that it has been God's compassion and mercy that have helped me to endure and given me hope through very difficult times. This week we will continue to consider the fifth beattitude: "Blessed are the merciful..." My friend, have mercy today on the little "trees" that are in your care! Listen to our theme song of this week, "I Haven't Turned out Yet!" with this post in mind!

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET...IT'S A PROCESS...IT'S SEASONAL...

MEDITATION MONDAY
.
Today, here in South Jersey, WINTER is obvious. Schools are closed as the snow continues to fall heavily. Even the University where I teach has closed it's campuses, so I seize the opportunity for extended meditation. For some of you it's just the opposite on a snow day because that means the kids are home. If only they would sleep in!
.
As I look out at the trees holding several inches of snow on their boughs, I meditate on several interconnected thoughts:
  • The HOPE that the trees that I am looking at will soon begin to bud and then flourish with foliage and fruit as SPRING and SUMMER arrive.
  • My "grocery store tree" that was next to the grocery store parking lot in Bloomington, IN where I used to live.
  • Teaching the Pitman church's Treasured in My Heart ladies class last fall where I shared the story about the encouragement I got from trees...especially that "grocery store tree" that became my "meditation tree" and "tree of encouragement".
  • Those of you who have told me since that tree watching has become a spiritual exercise for you, too.
  • Stephanie, who went throughout South Jersey after that class (with her children) and found trees "with spiritual lessons".
  • The incredible gift that Stephanie and her children made for me from their tree watching experience(s).
  • Saturday night's fellowship at Dwight and Mary Lea's with the Pitman elders', preachers', and their wives and the LOVE and JOY that filled their home.
  • Our Marking for Meaning Bible class, yesterday morning, as we looked at Genesis / Revelation connections AND that God made trees on the 3rd day.
  • Yesterday, Steve's last sermon in our Nehemiah series on THE JOY OF THE LORD.
  • Last night's life group at the Betts' home, as we discussed JOY Myths, JOY Killers, JOY Modelers...Joy as a fruit of the Spirit...
  • Our church family is JOYFUL!
  • How does all this connect with the Beattitudes and being MERCIFUL?
  • The Beattitudes that we are studying on this blog and the realization that the Beattitudes are not so much about the fruit of the Spirit...but about how to live in order that the Holy Spirit of God can grow His fruit in us...trees grow fruit (not of their own accord)...christians grow fruit (not of their own accord)...
  • Growth is seasonal!
  • If it's WINTER for you right now, I pray that you are meditating and renewing your strength...give Him glory in the process...
  • If it's SPRING for you right now, I pray that you soak in the river of God's Spriit and the light of His ways...allowing Him to grow your roots deeper as He graciously buds your leaves and fruit...
  • If it's SUMMER for you right now, I pray that you are all God intends for you to be...may your service give Him glory...
  • If it's FALL for you right now, I pray that as you display the glory of God through your colors...that it truly is all about Him....

.

If you're snowed in today with your kids, I hope you have a few minutes to listen to our song of the week. I posted the words yesterday. May it convict you of the first five Beattitudes...and a desire to come back to tomorrow's post as I share Stephanie's gift...

.

Matthew 5:3-5

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those

who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy. "

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET

SUNDAY IN THE SON
.
Today we begin a new focus on the fifth beattitude:
"BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL,
FOR THEY WILL BE SHOWN MERCY."
.
I think that a good place to start this week
is to look at how we show mercy to
our children and/or husbands.
As we hunger and thirst for righteousness,
there are new things that
the Holy Spirit teaches us along the way.
Let's ask that He give us eyes to see what mercy looks like.
.
The first song on the playlist by Steve and Annie Chapman
gives us some powerful food for thought!
.

I HAVEN'T TURNED OUT YET lyrics

.
The other day, I heard my mom complaining to my Dad.
It seems she was quite certain I was turning out all bad.
And so, that night when she came in to tuck me into bed
I asked her to sit down awhile and this is what I said,
“Mom, you do not need to worry!
Mom, you do not need to fret!
Those things you always tell me, I never will forget.
Someday I‘ll be a grown –up and you’ll be proud of it.
You see, I’m still a kid Mom, I haven’t turned out yet.
.
My Dad was telling Grandpa that he was worried as could be.
It seems his heart was breakin’, he was so ashamed of me.
And so that night instead of Mom it was Dad who tucked me in.
I asked him to sit down awhile. I started with a grin.
I said, “Dad, you do not need to worry!”
I said, “Dad, don’t give up on me yet!
That spankin you just gave me, I never will forget
Someday I’ll be a grown-up and you’ll be proud of it.
You see I’m still a kid, Dad, I haven’t turned out yet.”
.
A little later that same night we heard both Mom and Dad
We peeked through the key hole. They were kneeling by their bed.
With arms around each other, they were talkin’ kind of sad.
It seems that they were prayin’, cause this is what they said…
“LORD, we ask you to forgive us! LORD, we’re so quick to forget!
We were kids not long ago and we’re not grown-up yet
LORD help us to be strong and not do things we’ll regret.
Be patient with us please LORD! We haven’t turned out yet.
Keep workin’ with us please LORD! We haven’t turned out yet.
