It is GOD who BLESSES and TRANSFORMS...

This is a blog for women (not just moms) who:

(1) Desire to be transformed by JESUS' LOVE, HOLINESS, AND GRACE;

(2) Believe that GOD'S WORD is the true Spirit food for HIS HOLY SPIRIT who lives within us;

(3) Submit to GOD and walk this journey of life with HIM transforming us more and more into HIS likeness.

It's a blog about the POWER OF TRANSFORMED LIVES. Let's begin with yours and mine and pass it on... 1 + 1 + 1...

Since GOD's HOLY SPIRIT lives inside a christian, let's choose to be nurtured and transformed by feasting daily on HOLY SPIRIT food - GOD's WORD - The Holy Bible..

My regular posts stopped in 2013, with a major move and the chronic illness and eventual death of our oldest daughter. Yes, we grieve daily, yet I am determined to continue to let the LIGHT of my LORD and SAVIOR shine through me. I have tried to start posting again, over the last few years, but have not been consistent. So, I think the biggest blessing for you and me both will be to intersperse some new posts while revisiting some of the former posts. Let's begin with "Oh, the JOY!" as we head into living through Fall 2019; meeting back here 1-2 days a week.

If you need daily encouragement, you will find plenty by clicky on past posts. When reading earlier posts, you will see that I often posted daily, following this format: ...Sunday in the SON, Meditation Monday, GratiTuesday, Women in the WORD Wednesday, Transforming Thursday, Family Fellowship Friday, Ketchup & Mustard Saturday.

There's a whole lot here! Take your time to browse.

Please come back and visit each week. Welcome!

Because of JESUS, we can be family,

Patti

TRANSFORMED MOMS:MOMS TRANSFORMED

Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."

TESTIFY TO LOVE: WOMEN'S RETREAT

Here is the outside and inside of the Willow Valley Resort in Lancaster, PA where the Pitman church of Christ's Women's Retreat was held this past weekend. Below is the Victorian Chapel where we had our Sunday worship service. The pictures would be incomplete without a picture of one of the many horses and buggies that are seen on the roadways of this Pennsylvania Dutch settlement. Sunday morning we woke up to a covering of snow to make it all look like a winter wonderland.

.
.

Here is the back third of the conference room
on Saturday of the retreat.

.

TODAY IS MEDITATION MONDAY
.
.
I'll be referring to MEDITATION MONUMENTS shared by our 3 Women's Retreat speakers from this past weekend. These are big monuments of remembrance from how GOD worked in their lives. Our theme was: GOD WORKS IN ALL THINGS! I don't think that it was planned, but all three speakers connected with Isaiah 43. Here is that scripture, in part here, to lay the ground work for our meditation thoughts.

.
.
Isaiah 43
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name; you are Mine!
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they will not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched,
Nor will the flame burn you.
For I am the LORD your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior..."

Saturday Morning: Jackie Fenton
GOD Works to Transform Families
Jackie, is the wife of Horatio - one of our elders at the Pitman church of Christ. Jackie was born in Jamaica. She has had a very interesting life. I have chosen to post two MEDITATION MONUMENTS from Jackie's life that she shared with us on Saturday:
.
1. Jackie's parents came to the states for work when she was six years old, leaving her and her two younger siblings to be taken care of by a grandmother for four years in Jamaica until her parents could bring the children to the states. God worked through a godly grandmother to help her overcome fear and to teach prayer, devotionals, Bible stories, church going, and a love for GOD to these young minds. This was huge for Jackie's spiritual development since neither of her parents were christians. As a young adult in the USA, Jackie turned to the GOD that her grandmother had introduced to her many years earlier in Jamaica. Jackie could TESTIFY TO THE LOVE OF HER GOD AND HER GRANDMOTHER!
.
2. After Jackie's mother's death at the age of 45, Jackie and her siblings found out that they had an older sister who they had not known about. This sister, Clover, was a child of their father's. Clover became a fast friend. Today, in spite of any rejection that Clover experienced in those early years, she has put that behind her. Today, their dad is "penniless" and Clover chooses to support him by providing for him a home to live in and caring for many of his basic needs. Clover's actions TESTIFY TO THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF HER GOD that she has received and passed on to her earthly father!
.
.

Thank you, Jackie for sharing about your fears turning to faith!

We can see how GOD worked at transforming your family.
.
.
Saturday evening - Rebekah Lazar
GOD WORKS OUTSIDE THE BOX

Rebekah is a young adult daughter of one of our elders, Mike Lazar and wife Donna. As a college graduate, Rebekah was not ready to stay "settled down" to a job so after much searching she and friend Rachel went to the other side of the world to spend a year volunteering at a christian camp in New Zealand...but a real job came open at the camp with A LOT of responsibility. Rebekah saw GOD work over and over again until now her new favorite verse is Matthew 6:33: "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." Two MEDITATION MONUMENTS from Rebekah's year in New Zealand:

.
1. GOD's faithfulness was obvious in how He used 3 people in major ways to impact Rebekah for the year...she is allowing this to TESTIFY TO THE LOVE OF GOD. Stephen left and she took over as director...Clay was focused on the spiritual growth of the camp and GOD used him to help her see that camp should be all about GOD and not just penciling Him in between 9-10...Rachel was "my supportive friend who took a back seat although she was equally talented and capable of running the camp..."
.
2. GOD's faithfulness was obvious in how He used Rebekah to TESTIFY TO HIS LOVE and impact 3 people in major ways: Lynda and Rebekah did not start out seeing eye to eye but now Lynda and her mom are baptized believers and on fire for GOD...Rebekah impacted herself because the more she learned and grew, the more spiritual GOD allowed her to become and she grew into a spiritual leader... Hadley was a volunteer at the camp who went from living a non-christian life to living a christian life and texting Rebekah Matthew 7:7.
.

Thank you, Rebekah, for allowing GOD to guide you into living "outside the box"...
.

.

Sunday morning - Debbie Durham
GOD WORKS AS SOVEREIGN LORD

Debbie, the mother of three young adult children, lost her husband Gary suddenly on December 4, 2005. Their family had already been hit hard with Gary's loss of job and cancer. He had just come home from the hospital and surgery when he died suddenly. Two MEDITATION MONUMENTS from Debbie's journey are:

.
1. GOD is sovereign in every season of life...even when it's the darkest. So, being left with a mortgage, single parenting, planning graduations by self, anticipating children's futures...it became so overwhelming that she could only turn to her Heavenly Father and His family. Debbie learned that she had to let GOD be GOD. She had to let GOD reign in her life...the word reign is in the word Sovereign. In the process of letting GOD reign, she adopted a new mantra: I CHOOSE JOY! As she began to choose joy and let GOD reign over her circumstances, she saw that she had built up walls with stones of doubt, fear, control, distress, anger, apathy, self reliance, rejection...in order to truly let GOD reign she had to remove the stones. At the end of her talk, she read us a little book called THE WALL. The more Debbie removed the stones from her own wall, the more she was able to TESTIFY TO GOD'S LOVE!
.
2. "Every flower that ever bloomed had to go through a whole lot of dirt to get there!" Debbie's journey has been hard. Just like a flower slowly grows toward the sun, Debbie has slowly grown closer to the Son as she has learned to fix her eyes on JESUS. She shared four songs with us to emphasize the process of the journey: Lord, Reign in Me...If You Say Go...I'm Waiting on You, LORD...Every Season...
.
Debbie remarried this summer and as we watch her and Glynn bloom together, we know that GOD IS SOVEREIGN...WE CAN TESTIFY TO HIS LOVE!
.

.

Even though we had a great turn out at our Women's Retreat, we were very aware of those who wanted to be with us but couldn't for one reason or another: migraines, a broken ankle, children's illness, husband's work, school, and other things... We missed you Mary Lea, Debbie C., Marlene, Mandy, Diana, Kelly, Fran, Andrea, Kristy, JoAnn, Laverne, Melody, Tamme, Susie, Cathy, Rachel, Lori, Clare, Hope, Alana, Burt, Phyllis, Lea Ann, Cathy, Kat, Tanya, Debbie, Christina, Anita, Jen, Yvonne, Linda, Marlene, Joyce, Benja, Sue, Kelly, Sue...and many others....

.

.

We do know that we don't have to go off to a retreat to experience THE LOVE! The Pitman church of Christ is known for it's love! Just this last Saturday, Patrick Mead posted on http://www.patrickmead.net/ about churches where he speaks:.
"Then…Pitman, New Jersey — another favorite place of mine...in the northeast. Amazing place. "
.
I'd really like to hear your comments about what you enjoyed about the retreat or other things that you took away as MEDITATION MONUMENTS...please share!
In fact, I'll get us started...I'll share first!

.
Because of Jesus, we are family,
Patti

Testify to Love by Avalon
[VERSE 1:]
All the colors of the rainbow
All the voices of the wind
Every dream that reaches out
That reaches out to find where love begins
Every word of every story
Every star in every sky (in every sky)
Every corner of creation lives to testify
[CHORUS]
For as long as I shall live
I will testify to love
I'll be a witness in the silences
When words are not enough
With every breath I take
I will give thanks to God above
For as long as I shall live I will testify to love
[VERSE 2:]
From the mountains to the valleys
From the rivers to the seas

(rivers to the seas)
Every hand that reaches out
Every hand that reaches out to offer peace

(give peace a chance)
Every simple act of mercy
Every step to kingdom come

(to kingdom come)
All the hope in every heart will
Speak what love has done
(REPEAT CHORUS)
[BRIDGE 1:]
Colors of the rainbow
Voices of the wind
Dream that reaches out
Where love Begins
Word of every story
Star of every sky
Corner of creation
Testify
[BRIDGE 2:]
Mountains to the valleys
Rivers to the seas
Hand that reaches out
To offer peace
Simple act of mercy
Step to kingdom come
Every heart will speak
What love has done
[REPEAT BRIDGE 1]
[This is the 2nd chorus]
(For as long as I shall live, I'll testify, testify
All my life, I'll testify)
For as long as I shall live I will testify to love
I'll be a witness in the silences
When words are not enough
(Every breath I take, give thanks and testify, testify)
With every breath I take
I will give thanks to God above
For as long as I shall live I will testify
[REPEAT CHORUS]
[REPEAT 2ND CHORUS]
[End: Sung along with the added parts in 2nd chorus]
Testify
Your way
Testify
Your truth
Testify
Your life
Your love and mercy
(Repeat End)

Lyrics: Testify to Love, Avalon [end]

.

In 1998, "Testify to Love" made radio history when it remained the number one song for six consecutive weeks on the Christian adult contemporary charts. Within months it won the Dove Award, and Avalon's album A Maze of Grace rocketed to platinum. In all, Avalon has recorded 17 number one hits in their eight-year career, but "Testify To Love" stands apart as the group's signature song. For Avalon members Janna Long, Michael Passons, Jody McBrayer, and Melissa Greene, singing "Testify" is the high point of their concerts. "As soon as the crowd hears the music, they pop out of their seats and sing along," Long says.

.
Janna Long remembers when the group first heard the demo tape. "I don't remember anyone jumping up and saying this is going to be your career song," she says with a chuckle. "That's why when it was released, we were amazed at how it made such a connection with people." Through the years, Avalon has met many listeners who have bonded with the song. A Florida teacher, dying of cancer, picked the song to summarize her life and asked for it to be played at her funeral service. An Oregon man, on the verge of suicide, heard the song on the radio and felt that God wanted him to live. "To hear these stories is quite humbling," says Long. "It's not Avalon. It's God using the music. He just lets us be part of it."

LEGACY OF LOVE - PRAYER

FAMILY FELLOWSHIP FRIDAY
.

I have a pet peeve. It's when people say "let's say a prayer". It's as if they're reciting a poem or quoting a scripture. That's NOT what prayer is!
.

Prayer is...

  • talking to the Creator of the Universe

  • conversing with my Best Friend.

  • talking to my Daddy who just happens to own this planet

  • talking with my Heavenly Father and having my big brother, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit mediate and intercede for me since I'm not really great at that "heavenly language".

  • pouring out my feelings to the One who will understand.

  • crying out for forgiveness to my merciful and compassionate GOD.
.

So, what's this "let's say our prayers" stuff?

.

I'm all for starting out young. Listen to how your young children talk to GOD! Here's some times when we've stopped and prayed with our children:
  • when looking for lost eyeglasses of preschoolers
  • when the seatbelt was stuck,
  • when the kids were arguing
  • when baby kittens, puppies, or bunnies were born
  • when pets died
  • when people were poor, needed help/jobs
  • when kids were sad
  • when kids were sick
  • when friends were sad or sick
  • when a friend's house burned down
  • when there was no reason except to praise and be thankful...
.
Prayer is about talking to our Daddy in heaven who LOVES us so much that all our response can be is to love Him in return!
.
Deut 6:4-9 "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! 5 "And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; 7 and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and..."

.

Last week, Kristi had a precious Thanksgiving post about her little boy, Jason who turns 2 years old today. Happy Birthday to Jason! I quote:

.

"And one of the things I am most thankful for.... my son! The absolute best thing came out of his mouth the other day when I was putting him to bed. It stopped me dead in my tracks and my heart was just bursting with joy! Any guesses what he said????? He said- "Mommy- I pray!" Is that not one of the most amazing phrases that could come out of a nearly 2 year old's mouth???? It truly melted my heart! I just love watching my family change so much now that God is in control. Transformation is amazing!

.

Do you have some memories of praying with your children that you could share with us today? Do you have other FAMILY FELLOWSHIP memories or ideas to share? We'd love to hear! Or, better yet, write on your own blog and link up to us!

LEGACY OF LOVE: SHARE

TRANSFORMING THURSDAY

One of the biggest ways to leave a LEGACY OF LOVE is to SHARE how your life has changed, is changing, has transformed, or is transforming!

  • Share GOD's love!
  • Share your faith!
  • Share your story!
  • Share your life!
  • Share your church family!
  • Share what you are learning!
  • Share how you are transforming!

.

Yesterday, a group of us went to Don Pablo's for lunch to celebrate my birthday. Dan and Katherine were there and they are so natural at friendship evangelism. Steve, Dottie, and Jane were also there. I asked a few simple questions and got some wonderful encouraging answers.

  • Who shared with who to bring them to the LORD?
  • Who shared with who to bring them to the Pitman church?

The answers began to come quickly...Mary Lea's name came up over and over again...she loves to share JESUS with people and she's good at it...in fact, here is an incomplete list of some of the names that I remember being shared...

  • Mary Lea shared with Debbie, Kathy, Troy, Kelly, Stephanie, Kathy, Mike, and more...
  • Stephanie shared with Annette...
  • Mike and Tina shared with Harriet...
  • Ray & Cordelia shared with Horatio & Jackie...
  • Burt shared with Anita...
  • Phyllis shared with Suzanne...
  • Dottie & Debbie shared with Denise...
  • Denise shared with Michele and Tara...
  • Glynn shared with Beverly and Ileene...
  • Katherine shared with Sue and Kathy...
  • Dan shared with Charlie, Alana, John, Joyce, Harold, Yvonne, Aaron...
  • Ida shared with Doc and Kathy...
  • Bud & Barbara shared with Judi...
  • Ross & Benja shared with Marlene...
  • Marlene shared with Bruce...
  • Denise shared with Christina and Dee...
  • Linda shared with Kathy...
  • Burt & Marlene shared with Julie...
  • Rich and Joan shared with Franny, Matt, Stephanie...
  • Franny shared with Sandi...
  • Sandi shared with Kristi and Tim...
  • Jim & Kim shared with Danny...
  • parents shared with their children...parents shared with their children... parents shared with their children

.

In our scripture we're memorizing this week, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, God tells us WHAT to do and HOW to share it!

.

WHAT TO DO?
.

4 "Hear, O Israel!

The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

5 "And you shall love the LORD your God

  • with all your heart
  • and with all your soul
  • and with all your might.

6 And these words,

which I am commanding you today,

shall be on your heart;

.

HOW TO DO IT?

.

7 and you shall teach them diligently to your sons

and shall talk of them when you sit in your house

and when you walk by the way

and when you lie down

and when you rise up.

8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand

and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

9 And you shall write them on the doorposts

of your house and on your gates.

.

Please leave a comment today!

Who SHARED God's love initially with you? How did they do it?

Who has SHARED God's love with you along the way to model and mentor transformation? How do they go about it?

LEGACY OF LOVE: DARE

WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD

We have a theme scripture this week that we are working on memorizing. I hope you are joining us as we let GOD engrave it deeply in our hearts. It is written in it's entirety at the end of this post, but for right now, let's look at it's main focus:
.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9
The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

"And you shall love the LORD your God:

  • with all your heart
  • and with all your soul
  • and with all your might. "

Here, try this...

  1. Read it again!
  2. Now, read this and fill in the blanks without looking up, "The LORD is our ____, the LORD is ______! And you shall _______ the ______ your GOD with all your ________, and with all your soul, and with all your ________."
  3. Did you have trouble? Try it again!
  4. Okay, now scroll down a little.

.

.

........now, fill in the blanks. "The LORD is _____ ______, the _______ is one! And you shall ________ ____ ________ your GOD with _____ your heart, _____ your soul, and with _______ your might."

.

WOW! What a DARE! Give away ALL of my heart? Give away ALL of my soul? Give away ALL of my might? I think that just might render me helpless! I think that just might render me dependent...patiently waiting....trusting...trusting...trusting...I Corinthians 13 says that "LOVE ALWAYS TRUSTS!"

.

The DARE is great:

  • Love GOD with all of myself - Deuteronomy 6; Matthew 22
  • Love my neighbor - Matthew 22
  • Love myself - Matthew 22
  • Love friends - John 15
  • Love enemies - Matthew 5
  • Love the afflicted, brokenhearted, captives, and prisoners - Isaiah 61

This LOVE DARE thing might just make me feel a little vulnerable! Am I afraid to open myself up to people who are different from me? Does it take courage? Have I been hurt too many times to ever love again?

.

LOVE is quite a DARE! To LOVE GOD with everything is the ULTIMATE DARE! That's why Dan challenged us in His sermon on Sunday to DARE to love the poor and downtrodden... That's why yesterday in our PATRIARCHS ladies Bible class, we talked about how one of the marks of LOVING GOD is to give those closest to us back to Him...to give our families back to Him. Abraham and Sarah did this by leaving family to follow GOD! Abraham did this when GOD asked him to give his son, Isaac. LOVE ALWAYS TRUSTS!

.

Yet, isn't it hard to trust when the DARE requires so much!?!?!? Are you afraid to change how you LOVE GOD? LOVE OTHERS? What are your fears? GOD knows them, even if we do not know them ourselves. Here is what HIS WORD has to say about it:

1 John 4:18-21

"There is no fear in love;

but perfect love casts out fear,

because fear involves punishment,

and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

19 We love, because He first loved us.

20 If someone says, "I love God,"

and hates his brother,

he is a liar;

for the one who does not love his brother

whom he has seen,

cannot love God whom he has not seen.

21 And this commandment we have from Him,

that the one who loves God should love his brother also."

.

BE BRAVE, MY FRIEND!

DARE TO LEAVE AN

AMAZING LEGACY OF LOVE!

.

Yesterday morning before our PATRIARCHS class, many of you dear sisters surprised Mandy and me with a birthday party! Thank You! One of the reasons that this class is growing is because people say "we love how you love each other!" One of the reasons the Pitman church is growing is because we really do know how to LOVE EACH OTHER! I've never been a part of a congregation that "gets love" the way that this church family does! Now, we must take the next step: LOVE GOD WITH ALL...EVERYTHING..........DARE TO GIVE GOD'S LOVE TO THE UNLOVEABLE!

.
Yesterday, on this blog, I shared about my "birthday friend" of 18 years, Janet.
Since moving to New Jersey last year, Mandy is a new "birthday friend". What a treasure Mandy has already become to me. GOD knew! He put us together!
We needed each other...His timing is impeccable! I moved here in the fall of 2007, leaving my two young adult daughters behind in Indiana. Young Mandy (wife of Brian, mother of Maggie) lost her mother in the fall of 2007 to cancer.

.

Mandy has been BRAVE. Anyone, who knows Mandy knows how much she has grown this year. How much she desires to DARE to LOVE GOD with all her heart, soul, and might. If you want a peek at her heart just read a former post here: http://momstransformed.blogspot.com/2008/10/he-will-carry-me-because-he-is-who-he.html

The "Brandy" in that post is actually Mandy!

Happy Birthday my dear friend!

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

Hear, O Israel!

The LORD is our God,

the LORD is one!

"And you shall love the LORD your God

with all your heart

and with all your soul

and with all your might."

6 And these words,

which I am commanding you today,

shall be on your heart;

7 and you shall teach them diligently to your sons

and shall talk of them when you sit in your house

and when you walk by the way

and when you lie down

and when you rise up.

8 And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand

and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

9 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house

and on your gates.

LEGACY OF LOVE: CARE

Her name is Janet Martin...and yes, she is giving me a foot massage. ..

Yesterday, I gave you four words from Dan Cooper's Sunday sermon. He challenged us to let the Spirit of GOD use us to give GOD'S LOVE to the afflicted, brokenhearted, captives, and prisoners as is described in Isaiah 61 and in Christ's fulfillment of that in Luke. The four words? CARE, DARE, SHARE, and PRAYER. The next four days, I plan to write about how I see these four words connecting with the LEGACY OF LOVE that you and I want to leave. Today I am grateful that GOD put a living breathing example of the word CARE in my life. Her name is Janet Martin.
.

The picture above was taken on December 2, 1994. How do I know? December 1 is Janet's birthday...December 3 is mine. I first met Janet in the summer of 1990 when my husband, Steve, began preaching at the church in Texas where she and her family worshipped. This was now the 5th year for the birthday girls to do something together, but this year it would be different. I had been bleeding internally, blacking out, and feeling very weak. We both taught at the same elementary school and I wasn't going to be able to make it until Christmas break. So, I was going to have a complete hysterectomy the next morning - my birthday.
.
If you have been around me much at all, you have heard me tell this story:
.
I had spent the week before doing the best that I could with Christmas shopping, making lists for Steve and the kids, cleaning what I could...basically acting like the world would not go on unless I had everything prepared for the days that I was going to be out of commission (See the pencil behind my ear?!?!). The night before my surgery, the family had sat down to my "last supper". The phone rang. It was Janet. She was coming over. I begged her not to. Told her I had too much to do. She said all the more reason to come...she would be there soon.
.
After we finished the meal, as pictured here, she told my family that she had something to say...something to do...please watch and listen... Janet had arrived with a tub full of lotions, oils, towels in hand...(I am so thankful that Steve captured these moments on camera).

Janet had me take off my shoes. She washed my feet. She massaged my feet with oils and lotions. All the while, she talked. Something like this...

.

"I love your mom. She is a very special friend to me. I am doing this to her feet for many reasons...including that it just makes her feel good and will help her to relax. Over the next couple weeks you are already planning to pitch in and help in more ways than you already do...yet here is one more thing that I would like for you to do. When she comes home from the hospital, I want each of you to take turns doing what I am doing for your mom. It will be a way for you to show her you CARE...show her you LOVE her..."

.

What a wonderful 14 year gift that keeps on giving! Thank you, my friend! You passed on a LEGACY OF LOVE through the way you CARE.

.

I talked to Janet a long time on the phone last night as we celebrated her birthday. I wish you knew her...I am smiling as I write this.

.

Janet is:

  • like Christ in her kindness, gentleness, patience, peace, compassion, grace, loving the unloveable, going the extra mile, seeing the unseen, thinking outside the box, caring...

  • giver to the poor, needy, hungry, downtrodden, brokenhearted...

  • wife of Chip, mother of Tanya and Caleb, grandmother of Summer

  • educational consultant

  • reading specialist

  • special education teacher

  • author/illustrator of several well known books / programs to help children with reading

  • founder/creator of Ten Thousand Angels

  • a daughter of the KING!

.

Janet is passionate about helping those who can't help themselves. It is very apparent in how she lives her life. One of the series of books that Janet has written is called SIGHT WORDS THAT STICK for children who just can't remember all those "tricky" words. They learn each word through a story that can be "drawn out". Here on the front cover of her first book of the series is ME! "Help" is the perfect word to use me, Patti, as the star in. Often, Patti needed help. Often, Patti's friend Janet cared enough to help!

This series of books and LETTERVILLE can be found at http://www.carboreading.com/. Janet told me last night that she has a new invention that she has the copyright/patent on and is working with a company to perfect it for help with reading.

.

This New Jersey woman is very thankful to one Abilene, Texas woman for modeling that there are many ways to CARE and leave a LEGACY OF LOVE. Thank you, Janet!

LEGACY OF LOVE: BRAVE

MEDITATION MONDAY

Fran lost her daughter, Katie, two years ago this week to pancreatic cancer...Katie was pregnant...the baby didn't make it either...Katie was BRAVE...James, Katie's husband remains BRAVE...Larry, Katie's father and Fran's husband remains BRAVE...Teresa, Katie's sister remains BRAVE...Fran shared yesterday morning from the TREASURES OF HER HEART. There was much that Fran had to say about her christian heritage, mistakes along the way, GOD's providence in Newark, NJ, praying her girls through life - the importance of prayer...hearing their prayers - even when they didn't know that she was listening..

.

Then, she spoke of Katie's strong spirit, her love for the underdog, her going on to get her master's in Marriage and Family therapy at Harding University...she wanted to make a difference in life...she did! She also made a difference for so many in her death! She gave herself to her work with children and families and in the process touched many! One of Katie's favorite scriptures:

1 Corinthians 13:13

"But now abide faith, hope, love, these three;
the greatest of these is love."

.

I wrestled with our theme for this week because I wanted to connect two songs by Nicole Nordeman as we continue looking at GOD's LOVE in spite of our circumstances. I should have known that it would be GOD who would orchestrate the illustrations!

.

During communion, Garth, told about a poster of his that he got in Germany at a cathedral years ago. It said: BREAD FOR THE WORLD! Because Garth knows that the only true bread for the world is JESUS CHRIST, he shared this verse with us:

Mark 10:43-45

"But it is not so among you,
but whoever wishes to become great among you
shall be your servant;
44 and whoever wishes to be first among you
shall be slave of all.
45 "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."
.

Then it was Preacherman Dan's turn to talk to us about our need to be reaching out to the poor and downtrodden. ...focusing on servant hearted ministry bringing the BREAD OF LIFE. He emphasized that JESUS fulfilled these words in Isaiah 61:

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me,

Because the LORD has anointed me

To bring good news to the afflicted;

He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to captives,

And freedom to prisoners;

2 To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD,

And the day of vengeance of our God;

To comfort all who mourn,

3 To grant those who mourn in Zion,

Giving them a garland instead of ashes,

The oil of gladness instead of mourning,

The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.

So they will be called oaks of righteousness,

The planting of the LORD,

that He may be glorified."

.

There it is!

  • Katie was a channel of GOD'S LOVE and GOD was glorified!
  • JESUS was a channel of GOD's LOVE and GOD was glorified!
  • Dan wants us to be channels of GOD'S LOVE to the poor and downtrodden so that GOD will be glorified!

.

Dan gave us these 4 words:

  • CARE ... enough to make a difference!

  • DARE ... to step out of our comfort zones -be BRAVE!

  • SHARE...GOD'S LOVE in a very real and personal way!

  • PRAYER...ask GOD to lead us in LOVING HIS WAY!

.

For several reasons, this is one of my favorite Youtube music videoes. I can't articulate it totally, except to say I love the tears, the names of JESUS, the way the woman shakes the water off, the upstretched hands, and the way it ENCOURAGES me to be BRAVE ...stepping out there to show GOD's LOVE, the Deuteronomy 6 way:

"The LORD is our GOD,

the LORD is one!

And you shall love

the LORD your GOD

with all your heart,

with all your soul,

and with all your might!"

.

.

  1. Katie left a LEGACY OF LOVE: BRAVE!
  2. JESUS left a LEGACY OF LOVE: BRAVE!
  3. Dan asked us to love like JESUS...thereby, leaving a LEGACY OF LOVE: BRAVE!

.

BRAVE by Nicole Nordeman

1.
The gate is wide
The road is paved in moderation
The crowd is kind and quick to pull you in
Welcome to the middle ground
You're safe and sound and
Until now, it's where I've been
'Cause it's been fear that ties me down to everything
But it's been love, Your love, that cuts the strings
.
CHORUS:
So long status quo
I think I just let go
You make me want to be brave
The way it always was
Is no longer good enough
You make me want to be brave
Brave, brave
.
2.
I am small
And I speak when I'm spoken to
But I am willing to risk it all
I say Your name
Just Your name and I'm ready to jump
Even ready to fall
Why did I take this vow of compromise?
Why did I try to keep it all inside?
.
SING CHORUS AGAIN
.
3.
I've never known a fire that didn't begin with a flame
Every storm will start with just a drop of rain
But if You believe in me, that changes everything
.
SING CHORUS AGAIN
