WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY....Jesus is OUR HOPE...7 words/themes...

This month, we are focusing on our Lord Jesus Christ as our hope.  In the past few days I have posted multiple scriptures taken from the books of Matthew through Colossians that have the focus of Jesus / hope. Please read these two additional scriptures and then be encouraged by the connections I found in THE WORD.

Ephesians 4:1-6

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. ² Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. ³ Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. ⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called ; ⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism; ⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."

Colossians 1:24-29
^{24 "}Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. ²⁵ I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— ²⁶ the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. ²⁷ To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

²⁸ He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. ²⁹ To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me."




When reading different scriptures that talked about Jesus as our hope, I was struck by the similarity of some of the language or words used.  There were close to 20 words that jumped out at me, as being common words used in many "hope" scriptures.  So, I decided to take a tally.  I found 7 words/themes that were in many of those scriptures.  I will share them here and then I'd like you to ponder on the connections they have, with Jesus as our hope, until tomorrow.  Then, tomorrow on TRANSFORMING THURSDAY, we can study together some of the transformational implications.

1. God, the Father
2. The Holy Spirit
3. Love
4. Suffering/affliction/insult
5. Persevere/perseverance/endure/endurance
6. Encourage/build up
7. Power

 Jesus is our Hope!

 ⁴ "It has given me great JOY to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. ⁵ And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. ⁶ And this is love: that we walk in obedience to His commands. As you have heard from the beginning, His command is that you walk in love."

LOVING GOD, LOVING EACH OTHER... WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY...

MATTHEW 22:34-40:

The Greatest Commandment = J.O.Y.
34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

37 Jesus replied:

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul
and with all your mind.’
38 This is the first and greatest commandment.  (In other words, love Jesus!)

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  (In other words, love Others as much as you love Yourself).

40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Jesus is here with you and me via His Holy Spirit.  Jesus loves You!  How are You doing at loving Yourself?  Here's a self check!


1 Corinthians 13 describes that love called "agape".


"Love is patient,  (I am patient with myself).

love is kind. (I am kind to myself).

Love does not envy, (I choose to be thankful in all things).

love does not boast, (I choose to give God the glory in all things).

love is not proud. (I choose to give God the glory in all things).


Love does not dishonor others, (I choose to honor the differences in myself and others).

love is not self-seeking, (I choose to seek the kingdom of heaven first).

love is not easily angered, (I choose to listen more, see with new eyes, and breathe deep).

love keeps no record of wrongs. (I choose forgiveness and forgetfulness).



6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. (I choose truth).



7 Love always protects, (I choose to protect myself with flexible - not rigid boundaries).



Love always trusts, (I choose to trust the LORD who works in and through me).



Love always hopes, (I choose to rest my hope in Jesus).



Love always perseveres. (I choose to to never, never, never give up).



8 Love never fails... (I already know the end of the story... LOVE WINS!)



13 ...And now these three remain: faith, hope and LOVE.

But the greatest of these is LOVE. "

HE'S STILL WORKING ON ME... WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY...

We're trying to "get it" LORD!  You want us to love ourselves so that we can love our neighbors as ourselves.  Why is it so hard?  Yet, these ARE Your Greatest Commandments!

MATTHEW 22:34-40:

CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST... WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY...

 

Sometimes it helps to get the big picture, to see where we are going.  Jesus loves you and me and we love Jesus. Last Wednesday I asked, "How do You and I live to show Him our love for Him?"

I think I'll ask the same question again today!  THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!  Join me again this Wednesday as we consider how He says we should live.  The first part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount has 27 marks of:

• THE BLESSED LIFE
• THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
• THE JOY-FILLED LIFE
• THE LIFE OF LOVE

Instead of numbering the verses of Matthew chapter 5, I'll number those "27 marks" for us to consider.  The italicized words are scripture; the non-italicized words summarize the longer thought in scripture.

The Sermon on the Mount:

When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying,

1.  Blessed are the poor in spirit ...
2.  Blessed are those who mourn...
3.  Blessed are the meek (gentle)... 
4.  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness... 
5.  Blessed are the merciful...
6.  Blessed are the pure in heart ...
7.  Blessed are the peacemakers...
8.  Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness... 
9. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you...Rejoice and be glad...
10. You are the salt of the earth... 
11. You are the light of the world... 
12. Your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees...
13. You are devoid of anger with brothers/sisters:  ...who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court;
14. You use no contemptious words:  "...whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
15. You do not allow a brother or sister to hold anything against you:  First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering...
16. You have the spirit of quick agreement:  Make friends quickly with your opponent... 
17. You have no inward lustful thinking: ...everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell...
18. You have right relations with your spouse:   It was said, ‘WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE’; but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
19. You are relentless about anything that offends against the LORD:  Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.’ But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING. Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
20. You have truth in speech and attitude:  But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.
21. You turn the other cheek:  You have heard that it was said, ‘AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.’ But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
22. You give your cloak also:  If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.
23. You go the second mile:  Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.
24. You give to those who ask of you:  Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
25. You love your enemies:  “You have heard that it was said, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies and...
26. You pray for those who persecute you:  ... pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
27. You are to be perfect (mature), as your heavenly Father is perfect (mature).

I LOVE THE LORD.... WOMEN IN THE WORD WEDNESDAY

I am so grateful for God's WORD who feeds us, whether it is through reading and meditating on any scripture or making the higher level connection of looking at Jesus, the WORD, and His role in the big picture.  It is all HIS-Story!

In January, we are focusing on the love that Jesus has for us and our love for Him.  The last few Wednesdays we have looked at several scriptures for possible memorization.  Here are two of the most important... we already looked at them in the Monday post:

Our God sees the little details of life, but He also sees the big picture. Our God is LOVE and He asks the same of us. When God came down and "dwelt among us" (John 1), He was the walking talking embodiment of LOVE. He asks me to be the same! In fact, He said it in the Old Testament and He said it in the New Testament:

• Deuteronomy 6:4-6 ^"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. ⁵ Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. ⁶ These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts."

• Matthew 22:36-38 ³⁶ “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” ³⁷ Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ ³⁸ This is the first and greatest commandment. "

MY SAVIOR MY GOD... SON OF MAN... SHEPHERD... KING... BLESSED....

This year, we began memorizing "The Beatitudes". Jesus begins His Sermon on the Mount with, "BLESSED are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." That is not the last time the BLESSING of the kingdom of heaven is addressed in The Beatitudes. Jesus' Sermon on the Mount sets down the principles of kingdom living for His disciples.

The concepts of the "Sermon on the Mount" came up again and again in Jesus' ministry. Consider our new verses for this month as a challenge to FINISH STRONG:


MATTHEW 25



31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory,
and all the angels with Him,
He will sit on His glorious throne.

32 All the nations will be gathered before Him,

as a Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

GIVE THANKS...IN, FOR, AND THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD...

I am thankful that Jesus has given me a piece of His Holy Spirit to live and work inside of me. This is my identity IN CHRIST!

He promised this in John, when He said,

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Before long, the world will not see Me anymore, but you will see Me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you. 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

What is the evidence of Jesus' Spirit living inside of me? Galatians 5 tells us that the Spirit's fruit has these characteristics:

My thanksgiving is overflowing for the miracle of the Holy Spirit!

ZECHARIAH 4:6

So he said to me,
“This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:

‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’
says the LORD Almighty.


Dear friend, each of us must learn to walk in FAITH knowing that:

• F ixing my eyes on Jesus is foundational.


• A ssurance of my hope in Jesus shows I trust Him.


• "I don't wanna', but I'm a gonna!" must be my attitude!


• T hrowing off things that hinder my spiritual walk is imperative!


• H oly Spirit led women are FAITH walking, assured, persevering, victorious Jesus followers.

THAT'S WHAT FAITH CAN DO... BE STILL AND TRUST THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD...

These 3 verses have BLESSED my life a lot lately. I have added all 3 as our NOVEMBER SCRIPTURE MEMORY! All 3 verses scream FAITH!


EXODUS 14:14

"The LORD will fight for you;

you need only to be still.”

JEREMIAH 17:7


“But BLESSED is the one

who trusts in the LORD,

whose confidence is in Him."

BLESSED ASSURANCE...AS WE PERSEVERE...

JAMES 1:12

12 Blessed is a (wo)man

who perseveres under trial;

for once she has been approved,

she will receive the crown of life

which the Lord has promised

to those who love Him.

*NOTE:

This whole concept of perseverance

was one of the biggest things

my earthly father taught me.

Dad, today, I celebrate your life!

You would be turning 90 years old!

You lived 76 years, persevering to

please your Heavenly Father.
